HISTORY
Unitex is a family owned and operated business that was established in 1976. Our original production included industrial workwear (lab coats, smocks, shirts and pants). In the early 90's our focus shifted to Flame resistant (FR) workwear (coveralls, overalls and shop coats).
Currently we manufacture and supply FR garments to all levels of Government, institutions and private industries including major utilities, oil and gas industry, forest fire services and the department of national defense.
Our vast experience in manufacturing Personal Protective clothing, combined with our constant interaction with fire departments, fire brigades and forest fire services across Canada, has made Unitex a leader in the protective clothing industry. Our Certified garments have been developed in collaboration with professional fire fighters. These cost-effective garments do not compromise or sacrifice quality, integrity, durability, or performance, and still provides limited protection to the end-user.
We have been involved in several committees including the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) during the creation of the standard CAN/CGSB 155.22-97 Fireline Workwear for Forest Firefighters, now are garments are certified to CAN/CGSB 155.22-2014 Fireline Workwear for Wildland Firefighters. We also consulted with the Canadian Intergrancy Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) working group in facilitating and developing a national standard / specifications for ordering fire resistance nomex fireline, wildland, firefighter, coveralls / jumpsuits, pants and shirts.
We were the first manufacture to apply for CGSB registration of our fireline, wildland, firefighter, coverall, pant and shirt. In addition to this we were the first to have our product tested to the standard and pass.
In 2005 our coverall, shirt and pant were certified to CAN/CGSB 155.22-97. Currently are garments are certified to CAN/CGSB 155.22-2014.
